Uganda Journalists awarded in Multimedia Storytelling

On 28th February 2023, Journalists trained under the U.S Mission Uganda funded Multimedia Journalism & Digital Skills project were hosted to a virtual Multimedia Story Awards ceremony. The group of 60 journalists who underwent training in Hoima and Mbale respectively, received skills in multimedia story telling and digital skills from the Ultimate Media Consult team(UMC)

Awarding Story Grants

Upon completion of both trainings, 24 journalists were awarded story grants to work on stories they submitted and  pitched to the Ultimate Media Consult team. The 24 journalists received funding basing on the nature of one’s story and were given up to February 17th 2023 to have the story published and virtual award ceremony held on 28th February 2023.

The virtual award ceremony was held on February 28th 2023 with over 30 journalists in attendance. A team of 6 judges from Ultimate Media Consult and U.S Mission Uganda were present to assess journalists as they presented the stories they published.

Awarding of winners.

After all 24 journalists presented their multimedia stories, the Ultimate Media Consult team of judges and officials awarded 4 journalists for outstanding multimedia stories published.

  1. Davis Buyondo- Best Multimedia Story (Male)- Members of the Charcoal Burners Smugglers Syndicate make Surprising U-turn to lead Forest Wildfire Conservation Efforts.
  2. Nancy Atim- Best Multimedia Story (Female)- Impact of Agrochemical on soils in Lango sub-region.
  3. David Okiria William- Runner-up Best Multimedia Story (Male)- Bukedi losing wetlands to rice cultivation.
  4. Nagudi Fatuma- Runner-up Best Multimedia Story (Female)- How the ten year USMID program has chaned the face of Mbarara City.

Multimedia Story Award winners

Each of the winners were awarded with a certificate and cash prize. Winners- 1,000,000 UGX and Runners-up- 500,000 UGX. Each journalist that published a satisfactory multimedia will also receive a honorarium of 100,000 UGX.
